Sex in a literal, but also in a cosmological sense demonstrates the underlying unity of creation. It is for this reason that Judaism has always identified sex as the most holy of all human endeavors. Since our world was created as an arena to demonstrate the unity of God, no other act demonstrates this better than the physical union of male and female, strangers who become lovers, and lovers who are also friends.
