Since historically, however, Sufis, just like the early Jews, often have lived a nomadic lifestyle, with no temple or mosque to rely upon, they became quite skilled at learning how to fashion temples out of their physical and subtle bodies. Just as musicians rely upon their instruments to make music, Sufis came to rely upon certain esoteric practices as a way of attuning to the sacred. In the same way, it is possible for the modern seeker to enter the world within through the doorway of the creative imagination, as well as through mystical techniques of attunement.
