We are capable of all the good and all the evil that has ever been done, and this recognition is the beginning of grace. Once we know it, we can stop looking for heroes to save us, or villains to punish, and accept that in our own hearts lies the genesis of that which we both condemn and praise. When those who travel with us have been freed of our expectations and judgments they become available to us in all of their intriguing distinctiveness. In our own liberty, we are enabled to both listen and learn, without feeling the need to interject, convert, or qualify.
