Abraham Joshua Heschel wrote that there is no human being "who does not carry a treasure in the soul." . . . The Quakers call it the divine light within every person. If we cannot see any sign of it, then we are called upon to offer the most sacred kind of love. In so doing, we may not be able to redeem them, but we redeem ourselves from hatred. Love your enemy. Love your enemy not because it redeems your enemy, but because it redeems you.
