Aikido: Literally, "the Way of confluent energy"; sometimes more loosely translated as "the Art of Peace." A modern Japanese martial art, which — though useful in self-defense — emphasizes harmony, cooperation, and nonresistance. Aikido's founder, Morihei Ueshiba, realized that the essence of budo (martial Way) is love, and he urged his students and followers to act in "the spirit of loving protection for all of God's creation."
