A lazy mind is a mind that has become small and fixated. Meditation doesn't fit in with our habitual patterns, so we resist it. A supple mind has many more possibilities because it is flexible. It doesn't look at the world from the close system of "me," so it's no longer bound by the constrictions of maintaining its own comfort zone. In Tibetan the word for this kind of mind is shinjang meaning "thoroughly trained." Two qualities of the shinjang mind are pliability and interest. This mind is curious. It doesn't fall into laziness and the other obstacles because it knows how to stay open. That's the point of meditation, isn't it? We want to develop an open, interested, flexible mind.
