This galaxy, though just one of billions, is our native soil — not merely the cauldron for the chemicals that compose our bodies, but also the cradle of our imagining. And this means that the feelings of awe and reverence and wonder we feel when we gaze upward and contemplate the starry night are not merely unfounded sentiments or unproven hypotheses. They are valid clues that the universe that gave us birth is not only a collection of objects, but a communion of subjects.
