Against the universal rage of grasping the Buddha teaches relinquishment. Against the frenzy of vanity the Buddha teaches selflessness. The goods of the world, when lusted after, turn poisonous; and the ignorant urge to exalt ourselves sinks into sorrow. We would have all the world belong to us, but after all scheming not a grass blade or a raindrop does.
