For instance, if you have a difficult relationship with your mother, in the time that you are luicid and calm you can write a peace note to yourself: "My mother is a good woman. She has compassion and love in her heart, yet sometimes she becomes unpleasant and difficult to deal with. I have to help her in these moments rather than hate or punish her." As a daughter, son, or partner, each of us can write a peace note like this from our heart and keep it in our wallet. Then, in difficult moments, we can use the Wallet Reminder as a bell of mindfulness, to keep love and compassion alive in us and to help us refrain from uttering condemning and harsh words and from acting out of our anger and irritation.
