This spirituality is one of blessed participation. It is by taking part on earthly life with all its richness that we encounter the divine mystery. As Martin Buber reminds us, the world is not an obstacle on the way to God; it is the way. This message is reinforced by a passage in the Palestinian Talmud admonishing us that we will be called into account on the last day for all the joys of creation in which we failed to participate. We bless God as we drink wine, eat bread, see a wonder of creation, marvel at children, enjoy making love with our partners, and drink deeply of each day's fullness.
