Meditation, prayer, awareness of breath, study of spiritual teachings, remembrance of Divine Presence, self-observation, the surrender of our own will, alignment with a spiritual teacher — these are the small daily shocks that will allow us to see. Each of these practices will cause the heart to open enough so that awareness of what is will flood us. To live in openness, in not-knowing, in the empty space of whatever is, that is what keeps us in the domain of gratitude.
