Attar is thus one of the most important Sufi figures. He brought new light to the teachings by explaining the path through the art of storytelling, in a way that no one had done before him. His poetry is still recited among contemporary Sufis, and his stories are told among the laypeople. Rumi said of him, "Attar traversed the seven cities of Love, and we have reached only the corner of one street.
