Don't keep stopping to find our how far you have traveled on your spiritual journey, or how far you have slipped back. But just act quite simply according to your situation and your mood, and go ahead with no further worries. Don't worry because you don't feel His support and do not enjoy feeling devout. These feelings He will give you in His own time and in His own way. Our Lord wants you to become mature, and this means periods of darkness, disillusion and boredom. Maturity comes when we realize that we must love our Lord without straining, in spite of the painful destitution we feel and which nearly everyone around us seems to feel. In this way Our Lord is born again in our soul, once and for all, and lives within us, right in the midst of the misery of this world.
