Our willingness to walk towards the monster of fear can overcome resistance, denial, or rejection. We open the doors of perception. In Hindu and Buddhist countries there are large, fierce-looking statues flanking the entrances of temples and monasteries. They are symbolic — if we remain afraid, we are denied entrance to the Divine. Do we have the courage to explore these monsters? Can we be in touch with fear and still pass through the gates into the breathtaking inner sanctuary of the mystery of life? Being trapped by fear hides access to what is most precious.
