It is this panentheism which gives rise to an expanded understanding of the incarnation. We say that God took on flesh in Jesus, but God also takes on flesh in all of creation. The sacramental churches recognize this broad incarnation through the celebration of rites which hold out the holiness of bread, wine, water, and oil. In addition to these elements, we also bless animals, crosses, houses, icons, boats, candles, vestments and people. The ordinary stuff of creation is seen as being sacred.
