"My wife who is a religion teacher for primary grades tells me there is a time-honored tradition in her school, and it is this: Students from kindergarten and the first grade may with their teachers' encouragement go into another class and interrupt the lessons in progress. They do this for a very special purpose which they boldly announce through the use of a sign atop a stick which one of the group holds. The signs says: 'Poetry Break.'

"Once they enter the room, they stand in front and wait for silence. After all is quiet they each recite a piece of poetry, thank the class for their attention, and leave. Would that we could have some of these poetry breaks in our businesses, at faculty meetings in universities such as mine, or even in some of our churches to remind all of us of what is truly important and valued in life!"

To Practice: Have a poetry break in your family's schedule or at the next church council meeting.
