"Karmic opportunities are all around us. One afternoon I stopped for gas at a station on the freeway and was struggling with the pump when a young couple in a sports car pulled in behind me. I asked the driver if he would mind giving me a hand. Before he could answer, the woman next to him piped up, 'I'll do it,' and leapt out of the car. To my astonishment, she not only showed me how to work the pump but pumped the gas for me. As the tank was filling, we chatted. It seems the couple were en route to New York City for the weekend to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. When the tank was full, I thanked the young woman, and fumbling in my purse, produced a $20 bill. 'Please have a glass of champagne on me to celebrate,' I told her. 'Oh, no, she said, waving away the money. 'I just believe it's good karma to help people.' "
