Music brings life to the lines.
It makes them move and whirl.
As they move, you move as well.

— Ira Gershwin

"Was Gershwin a shaman? Yes, he was an ecstatic Broadway mystic and a Tin Pan Alley shaman during those moments when his heart opened and threw out a rope that lassoed a song, a tune holding the heightened longings of love. But, like a Bushman, he was only a shaman when he was receiving and performing his song, allowing it to pull the ropes inside our hearts. Shamanism and mysticism bring on the soul train of music when someone truly feels the passion churned by a moving song.

"What is your song? This is the question that needs to inspire your life. Find the song that opens and pours the magic potion of love into your heart. All lovers know that a romantic melody instantly pours their love into one another. The same is true for the heart-opening songs that access our intimacy with the gods. Somewhere out there is a sacred song for you that provides connection and relationship with the divine. One of the biggest secrets about spirituality is that all medicine people were strong spiritual healers and leaders because they had a sacred song that hooked them up to the Creator.

"A song from God is a rope. It's all you need to make a connection with the holy. If you are lucky enough to have more than one song, you are overflowing with ropes, and this constitutes great spiritual wealth. One of the names an Amazonian Guarani Indian elder gave me was He Who Catches the Songs because my heart has been able to catch more than a few sacred tunes. Some are original melodies, others are simple improvisations, and a few are recognizable songs supercharged with n/om. They are my link to the divine heart.

"The original teachers of spirituality ask us to live as if getting a song will be the answer to all our questions and the fulfillment of all our desire. Like lovers who ask a band to play their song, we each need a love song with the divine so we can ask the orchestra inside our heart to play it whenever we need a closer connection to the main source. A sacred song is the track that will lead us to whatever we are looking for in our life's mission.
