"A meditation student asked:

" 'What does the Buddha do when he is meditating?'

" 'He cultivates the Garden of his Heart" was the answer.

" 'How does he do it?' the student pursued.

" 'By watering and nourishing the beautiful flowers that grow there – flowers like love, compassion, and serenity,' replied the teacher.

" 'A garden is never finished,' said the teacher. 'That's why the Buddha is still meditating in all his pictures and statues.' "
