The church has tried but failed to convince most of its contemporaries that it can satisfy their hunger for the experience of Spirit out of the riches of its own life and wisdom. But in its attempt it has revealed that what it has to do is not merely to say something or do something but fully to be something. The Church must know itself with a joyfulness of self-knowledge that produces the right frequency and draws into itself the scattered signals of its lost contemporaries. That frequency is no less a thing than the life of the Risen Lord, vital in the heart of every being and drawing all being into conscious awareness of itself. The Church is what knows this life at the very centre of its being, which is in harmony with the centre of all being. The visible and multifaceted Church is, therefore, the visible form of the glorified, universal Lord Jesus. The frequency of Christ the person. It is a personal communication made with the authority of real knowledge.
