“The first time Richard Baker brought Suzuki in, there was a special lunch for them in the staff dining area behind the kitchen. Jim Cook prepared it. He placed a pile of hamburgers on the table. He’d spent hours preparing a special Zen macrobiotic type vegetarian meal for Suzuki and served it to him proudly. Suzuki thanked him. People started taking their hamburgers. 'I like hamburger,' Suzuki said while reaching for one. Poor Jim was crestfallen.”
