"Anyone who has pondered the mystery of human suffering has surely asked the rhetorical question, 'Why?' Perhaps suffering is a hidden gift, for what purpose could our trials serve other than to find and discover comfort in one another, in our faith, and in ourselves? I strongly believe that the times of most difficult challenge are a divine method of bonding us to one another and discovering our inner resources, thereby enriching the human spirit," writes June Cotner who has assembled this collection of poems and prayers from a large community of poets and spiritual writers who have contributed over the years to her anthologies. These words of comfort, encouragement, and inspiration are organized into thematic modules on comfort, faith, courage, hope, healing, reflections, gratitude, and inspiration. Here is a sample poem "Believe" by Sharon Hudnell — one that will speak to anyone who has been very sick or gone through a terrible operation:

"Believe you will emerge from this healthier,
with a greater knowledge and respect
for the body you were given.
Believe your family and friends,
all the people you've touched,
and some you may not even be aware of,
are praying for you to come through this
well and strong.
Believe in the compassion and skill
of your doctors, your nurses,
and the loving care of your angels.
Believe life holds many wonderful moments
in store for you
and much for you to accomplish
along the way.
Believe God watches over you,
that He will sit beside you during the
long hours
and bless you with whatever strength
you need."
