Born in 1936 in a village in India, Satish Kumar left home at the age of nine and became a Jain monk. Here he learned "deep and wide nonviolence." Kumar joined a Gandhi-inspired ashram where he practiced spiritual politics. In 1962, he and a companion took an 8,000-mile pilgrimage to promote world peace visiting the four nuclear capitals of the world — London, Paris, Moscow, and Washington, D.C.

On this one-hour interview, Kumar talks about this incredible journey with New Dimensions Radio host Michael Toms. Relying on the hospitality of others, he got in touch with the goodness of human beings around the globe. His experiences put him in touch with his inward self and his connection to the earth.

As the current editor of Resurgence Magazine, he discusses his ecological lifestyle and the creation of Schumacher College, an international center dedicated to the advancement of the ideas and ideals of the British economist who coined the term "small is beautiful." Kumar concludes this excellent interview with his commentary on a pilgrimage he took with his wife at age 60 to Mount Kailas in Tibet, a sacred site known as "the backbone of the earth."
