Krista Tippett created and has hosted the radio program "Speaking of Faith" since its beginning as an occasional feature in 2000 to its current form as a national weekly program in 2003. It is presently heard on over 230 public radio stations across the U.S. and globally via podcast and the Internet. She was a journalist and diplomat in divided Berlin during the 1980s before attending Yale Divinity School. Tippett is the author of Speaking of Faith: Why Religion Matters - and How to Talk About It. This thought-provoking paperback is based on the premise that there can be a fruitful interplay between religion and science. Tippett uses excerpts from the writings of Albert Einstein, whom she calls "a great mind and a wise man," as a catalyst for her discussions with many scientists and physicians. She makes it clear that for her "science is presenting whole new realms of challenge and promise for religion's self-understanding and its place in the world."

Tippett begins with a dialog with physicists Freeman Dyson and Paul Davies on Einstein's God; the conversation covers his view of space and time along with the magnitude of his scientific accomplishment. Other chapters present substantive material on a variety of subjects including Dr. Sherwin Nuland on the biological evolution of the human spirit; biographer James Moore on Darwin's understanding of religion; Cambridge physicist and theologian John Polkinghorne on "quarks and creation"; theoretical physicist and novelist Janna Levin on the universe; mathematics' psychologist Michael McCullough on the brain chemistry behind forgiveness and revenge; physicist V. V. Raman on Hinduism and science; bestselling author and physician Mehmet Oz on alternative medicine; rheumatologist and author Esther Sternberg on stress and the balance within; and Andrew Solomon, Parker Palmer, and Anita Barrows on the soul in depression.
