Oddrey is used to being the one who stands out as different from all her classmates. Then Maybelline, a new girl, begins attending the school and becomes popular thanks to her stories about traveling to the four corners of the earth. She quickly becomes a bossy leader of the games at recess.

Oddrey suspects she is exaggerating, but it doesn't matter to the other kids. Patiently Oddrey waits and watches until the right moment comes and she rescues Maybelline after she falls into a cage while at the zoo.

In this second story of Oddrey, author and illustrator Dave Whamond again grounds the story in the real experiences of children. Here the protagonist is getting further and further into envy until her heart opens and she acts out of human kindness.

Oddrey and the New Kid is another impressive children's picture book by Dave Whamond. It is targeted for children from the ages of 4 to 7.
