Margaret Silf is a prolific Christian author and retreat leader. In this Advent Journey, she takes us on an exciting encounter with "lighted windows" through which we gain a sense of God's guidance in our lives. During Christmas week, those windows open wide bringing the mystery of God's coming to earth. On Epiphany (January 6) the windows turn into doors and we are sent out into the world to bear witness to a love that will not let us go.

The Advent themes covered here are evergreen ones: guidance, trust, wisdom, mystery, and out into another year. In addition to her fresh approach to this familiar season, Silf has a knack for composing startling prayers. Here's one for Christmas:

"Lord, your gift to us of your very self still lies, unwrapped, in the forgotten corners of the world. Give us, today, the joy of rediscovering your presence in the presence of one another. Amen."
