Larry Rosenberg is founder and guiding teacher of the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center and a guiding teacher at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts. He is the author of Breath by Breath and Living in the Light of Death.

Over the course of a 40-year spiritual journey, Rosenberg has taken a path from Krishnamurti's philosophy to a decade of Zen to 30 years of insight meditation practice and breath awareness. He hopes that all the teachings he has received and taught will help the readers of this paperback "live with greater wisdom and compassion."

The three steps to awakening in formal meditation postures are whole-body breath awareness, breath-as-anchor, and choiceless awareness, which Rosenberg also calls engaged stillness. What are the benefits of these practices?

The author points to the development of new skills of steadiness, sensitivity, and watching. Another spinoff is becoming more alert to what's happening and how life is behaving right now. A final outcome is a fresh understanding of relationship as a vehicle for self-discovery. Rosenberg credits Krishnamurti for the last realization.
