Dr. Pamela A. Popper is a naturopath; an internationally recognized expert on nutrition, medicine, and health; and Executive Director of The Wellness Forum. She was an expert for the film and book Fork Over Knives. This accessible book is structured around Popper responding to questions put to her by Glen Merzer.

Popper notes: "We have strange ideas about food in this country. One is the idea that . . . you can eat almost anything you want as long as you eat it in moderation."

Attitudes like this one have led to the obesity epidemic. Although she is a dietary vegan, Popper does not suggest that everyone plunge into this approach to optimum health. She is critical of medical practitioners who give their patients the wrong idea that medicine is a better route to well-being than a well-balanced food regimen. Right now, nearly half of Americans take at least one prescription medicine with almost a quarter taking three or more. For those who feel they want to move beyond overeating and being overmedicated, there are 25 oil-free, plant-based recipes included in the book.
