During the day, Hamilton Squidlegger is a superhero triumphing over frackensnappers, skelecragons, and bracklesneeds in the swamp. His dad goes along with his son's mighty heroism: "Your strength and speed are stupendous." But once night falls, the boy is very fearful, and he runs to stay in the mud close to his parents. His wise and loving dad helps him reframe his response to the monsters of the night.

Timothy Basil Ering is the writer and illustrator of this scrappy children's picture book. On the book jacket he confesses:

"I have a secret — monsters that appear in our dreams can actually be really fun and silly! I remember waking up from scary dreams when I was a boy and fleeing to my mom and dad's bed for safety. But I also remember a trick I had then, a trick I still use now and have shared with my two sons. If I can somehow, some way, make friends with the scary things in my imagination, my bad dreams turn into fun and grand adventure instead."
