After having visions of God during a near-death experience when she was 30, she spent the rest of her life examining the implications of this mystical experience. Hildesley finds Julian's ability to see God in nature, her understanding of Christ as Mother, and her use of contemplative prayer as relevant to the revitalization of Christianity today.
