Using data gleamed from 30 year of polls conducted by the University of Chicago's National Opinion Research Center, Andrew M. Greeley dons his sociologist's hat and reveals that Catholics are loyalists who love being Catholic. Despite the sexism of St. Augustine, the inflexibility of the Catholic hierarchy, and the mediocrity of many priests, believers persevere. Greeley states that Catholics are better educated, more affluent, and more liberal on economic policy than Protestants. Best of all, they are always on the lookout for signs of God's love and presence in the everyday world — including in the arts and media, in the parish, and in the deeds of "lover, friend, spouse or mother."
