My two favorite food groups are butter and salt. During the season of Lent (the forty days before Easter Sunday), I stop eating both. Every time I sit down to a meal, I am aware of not eating salt or butter. It is then that I think of people who are in dire straights, people who do without daily, and not by choice. I become aware of my sisters and brothers of whom I am usually not conscious. I pray that my awareness may strengthen my resolve to share with those who have less. Fasting becomes my prayer.
