Since "indigenous" means "to be born from within" (Gk. genes=one born, indu=within), to lose our connection to this past means to lose any sense of our earth as the womb and home that brought us into being. Meanwhile, matter, in a sense, becomes a forgotten "relative." The stage is set for a non-incarnational view that strips soul from the earth. So we wonder why we despair and why violence is so easy!

"To be born from within" is important for an understanding of incarnation that does not lead to separatism.
