God is not simply in the light, in the intelligible world, in the rational order. God is in the darkness, in the womb, in the Mother, in the chaos from which the order comes. So the chaos is in God, we could say, and that is why discovering the darkness is so important. We tend to reject it as evil and as negative and so on, but the darkness is the womb of life. Yet we are always trying to discover how to relate the opposites. You cannot dismiss one or the other. You have to be open to the coincidencia oppositorum, the coincidence of opposites. That is the secret.
