Another way that people and nature are interacting in cities is through the establishment of urban farm plots. A recent United Nations study reported that one-third of the world's produce is grown in cities. These plots take many forms: allotment gardens rented to apartment dwellers, abandoned lots cultivated by neighborhood organizations, institutional gardens created from asphalt parking lots, rooftop gardens for people in public housing.
