Surely, in our time, the natural world is joined in its oppression with Christ: it too is being crucified. Just as in the face of a suffering child, woman, or man, Christians see the face of Christ, so also there is a trace of that face in a clear-cut forest, an inner-city landfill, or a polluted river.
