Chein, literally, [means] "grace." A traditional Jewish prayer asks God to grant peace, goodness, blessing, chein — grace — lovingkindness, and mercy to the world. Chein is dignity, graciousness, virtue, providential care. If chein is what we want from God, then chein is what others want from us — and what we can graciously provide. We can bring chein to every word, to every act, to every relationship, to every moment. We can wrap ourselves and everyone around us in a mantle of care and an aura of gracefulness.
