Internal peace and self-acceptance, then, is the antidote to evil. Jealousy, the sustained refusal to acknowledge the value and talent and power and strength and public affirmation of the other, is its mortal enemy. The evil done by jealousy is first of all done to ourselves because it eats away at us like acid in a battery. Disgusted with ourselves, we seek to repair the problem at someone else's expense. It is not a pretty picture.
