What if Christians were to model ourselves on the decisive dispositions of Jesus, such as his surrender to God, gratitude, readiness for service and self-sacrificing love, and preferential option for the poor? What if we were to take up in our own way the paradigmatic actions in the life of Jesus, such as the cross, foot washing, prayer, outreach to those who were excluded or marginal, healing, forgiveness, love of enemies, and nonviolence? What if we were to enter imaginatively into his utopian teaching about God's reign?
