Jesus sought a universalistic, nonlegalistic, nonritualistic religion of inner and outer spiritual perfection, based on ethical monotheism. He believed in the existence of one God, the Creator and Sustainer of us all, and wanted us to focus on how we live our lives as well as the words and deeds we express toward others.
