Like grace and mercy, peace has its genesis in the good gift of God. We have been made to be in harmony with God, and whenever that is realized peace is generated. It is a by-product of soul-union with the divine Spirit, rather than an end in itself. That is why to pursue peace is always ultimately self-defeating. To use a rather inappropriate analogy, some missiles produced a high-pitched wail when they lock-on to a target. In a similar way, our souls exude peace when they have engaged with God and been overwhelmed by love.
