For Seraphim [Saint Seraphim of Sarov], the Sarov forest became a desert, that is, a place of encounter with God and struggle with himself. He named various forest locations Nazareth, Bethlehem, Gethsemani, Tabor and Jerusalem to assist his Scripture reading and prayer.
