The most recent chapter of our history is not alone in reminding us that nationalism can be as blind as love, for it is a form of love. . . . Patriotic fidelity to the nation's creed remains challenging, but it invests the nation with spiritual purpose and — if we honor its precepts — a moral destiny. American nationalism betrays that destiny. What we need today are a few more patriots.
