We can call for the closing of military bases and the School of the Americas (which trains Latin American military death squads). We can demand the dismantling of our stockpile of weapons of mass destruction; assist efforts to disarm U.S.-manufactured land mines left in war zones around the world; push for cleaning up the environment polluted by nuclear weapons testing; support sister parishes and commuities in Third World countries; join various peace and disarmament groups; and build a grassroots movement to abolish nuclear weapons. We can even love those who maintain our military arsenal and wear them down with our kindness, persistence, and solicitude, until they, too, accept the wisdom of nonviolence.
