Suppose a dialogue were to begin on a spiritual level between nations. Suppose defensiveness were tempered with sincere and skillful attention devoted to understanding the experience of the other. Suppose the world's powers became open to receiving the authentic story of the way of life of third world peoples. Suppose the lip service paid to diversity grew into robust mutual listening to the values of other cultures. Suppose the scars of injury were allowed a place in the light to heal, responsibility for transgressions was claimed, and atonement was made. Suppose the need to define one another as other melted away.

If the world were deeply heard, what potential do you imagine there would be for healing across the globe? Stop now. Take a breath. Attend to your disquietude. And listen.
