The great spiritual traditions all seem to note our characteristic human frailty, rendering us so vulnerable to life's tests. The Hindus see us as ignorant, while the Buddhists claim that we are sleepy. The Muslims call us to pray five times a day because we are prone to forget that only God is God. Jews recognize an evil inclination, leading us to miss the mark (the root meaning of sin in Hebrew and Greek); and in Christianity this theme finds classic expression in the teaching of original sin. The final though unflattering truth about us seems to be that we are not a highly enlightened species when it comes to handling life's many tests. Like the Buddha when he is similarly tested, Jeshu handles life's tests with extraordinary skill and courage.
