Monks and nuns in the Indian tradition wear a kavi, a very simple garment in a bright orange color — what we might call a habit. Its intense color is achieved by dipping a piece of white cotton in yellow dye a thousand times. The monastic wear this color as a reminder of their need to dip again and again into the Divine through meditation in order to attain the transformation they desire. To attain a total open listening for the Divine we need to dip again and again into the divine reading of lectio divina.
