Human beings are relational creatures.
We long to belong.
For this reason we make friends
and look for love.
This is what binds us together in families
and in communities.

Yet our human relationships rarely live up
to their promises.
Friends let us down, and love can disappoint us.
Families grow up and move away
and communities break apart.
But the longing to belong never goes away.

Such a longing is not just some vague yearning for what
can never be.
It is the voice of our collective human heart,
telling us that right relationship is actually at the heart
of the matter
and that we must keep striving for it, whatever life
throws at us.
