You ask, must I live as a pensioner of God's grace, as one who has no further progress to make? My answer is that grace is essentially productive, and that the fixed rate at which God gives you grace holds you steady in your present state and produces fruits every day which are stored up in the sight of God and His Angels. For the soul to remain steady in a certain state is to make progress, just as it is in farming when one does the same work, ploughing the same number of furrows day after day.
