When I have been hurt by someone, I can respond with compassion. The energy produced by inclinations toward anger can be redirected in order to select a more appropriate response to the situation. In wrestling with anger I can learn humility — Why should someone treat me with special deference? . . . Anger can be an indication of attachment to the self and the incident that provoked the anger may give me the opportunity to practice patience.
